In virtually every media release announcing a new PBS listing, health minister Greg Hunt says, "These new and amended listings were recommended by the independent Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee." The PBAC is not independent in law or in practice. The committee might act at arms-length but it can not and does not act independently of the health minister or the bureaucracy.
