The courage shown by patients in sharing their stories publicly should never be underestimated. It requires stepping beyond the private realities of illness, such as fear, uncertainty, the strain placed on families, and placing those experiences before a community of strangers. It is an act of courage. At this year’s Rare Cancers Australia Kosi Challenge in Thredbo, that courage was unmistakable.
