Companies join walk to end stigma

Employees of Lundbeck and Otsuka turned out in force to support the sixth annual Wellness Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday.

The walk is designed to show support and raise funds for people living with mental illness. Crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge signifies bridging the gap by moving from stigma to understanding.

Lundbeck employees were joined by representatives of alliance partner Otsuka who, along with family members, also participated in the 5.9-kilometre walk.

The event supports One Door Mental Health in providing essential mental health programs and services to people living with a mental illness, their families and carers.

Lundbeck has specialised in the research and development of medicines in the psychiatry and neurology disease areas for more than 70 years. In recognition of the company’s Danish heritage, the company's employees were joined on the walk by the Danish Ambassador to Australia, Tom Nørring, his wife Claudia and employees of the Danish embassy.

“The company is proud to continue its unbroken support for the Wellness Walk which is a key event during Mental Health Month," said Lundbeck Australia managing director Michal Sørensen.

“We understand the need to continue to build support for community-based organisations such as One Door and to signal the fact that people living with a serious mental illness are not alone. This has never been more important as Australia faces increasing rates of suicide and indications of declining mental health in young people.”
